This poem has great significance in Indian history and culture as it was authored by the Vijayanagar emperor Sri Krishna Deva Raya in the 16th century. It is believed that Krishnadevaraya wrote the work, after getting a dream in which Lord Vishnu appeared and instructed him to write the story of his wedding to Andal at Srirangam in Telugu.

The work also speaks in some detail about Vishnuchitta Periazhvar and the arguments he put forth in support of Visishtadvaita and against other schools of philosophy.
